The mission of the Office of Postdoctoral Scholar Services is to support, enhance, and promote postdoctoral training at FIU.  As a university with the highest level Carnegie Classification (R1: Doctoral Institutions – Highest Research Activity), FIU is deeply committed to ensuring that postdoctoral fellows obtain the advanced education, training, and career preparation needed to excel in academia, public service, industry, or the private or nonprofit sectors.   FIU recognizes that postdoctoral scholars contribute to the vitality and creativity of the university community and that robust postdoctoral preparation and training programs heighten FIU’s reputation as a top-tier research university..

Services

The Office of Postdoctoral Scholar Services (OPSS) is a unit within the University Graduate School (UGS) and the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED). OPSS’s mission is to serve as an academic center of excellence for postdoctoral scholars across the University. OPSS strives to foster a robust postdoctoral community, provide opportunities to enhance the postdoctoral experience and future success of its constituents, serve as a dedicated resource for postdoctoral scholars, faculty and administrators, and promote the University’s dynamic program of postdoctoral opportunities while supporting postdoctoral scholars throughout their time at FIU. OPSS engages the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) in supporting and facilitating postdoctoral scholars’ endeavors in pursuing research funding, managing intellectual property and commercialization, and providing general administrative support of research endeavors.

  • Informing interested postdoctoral candidates about the application process.

  • Supporting postdoctoral scholars in their efforts to secure external funding, fellowships, and/or faculty awards.

  • Fostering a strong and engaged postdoctoral community at FIU.

  • Offering career development programming.

  • Educating postdoctoral scholars and the campus community about University policies, postdoctoral rights, and other concerns related to postdoctoral scholars.

  • Assisting faculty with the recruitment, hiring, mentoring, and professional development of postdoctoral scholars.
