About the Postdoctoral Advisory Council
The FIU Postdoctoral Association (FIUPAS) is governed by an elected Postdoctoral Council. The Council is responsible for organizing events, managing the budget, communicating important information to postdocs, establishing relationships across campus, and celebrating and respecting diversity among FIU Postdocs.
Any postdoc may serve as a member of the Council. Elections occur through digital ballots distributed to all FIU Postdocs in June. Officer selection occurs within the elected Council in July. Terms begin in August.
Council Officers
Postdocs may serve on the Council in the following positions:
- Chair: Oversee council operations and coordinate with members to ensure effective execution of events and initiatives.
- Vice Chair: Support the Chair in council oversight, scheduling, and agenda setting, while assisting with decision-making processes.
- Treasurer: Manage the council’s budget and allocate funding for activities and events.
- Membership Coordinator: Lead member recruitment and retention efforts within the postdoc community.
- Community Officer: Provide updates on existing events and resources at FIU, highlight available support structures, and suggest new avenues for postdoc support.
- Events Coordinator: Plan and coordinate events, working closely with FIUPAS committees to ensure successful execution.
- Outreach and Advocacy Coordinator: Gather suggestions from postdocs on relevant issues and advocate for necessary changes within the institution.
- Program Development Officer: Oversee and track the development of FIUPAS programming to ensure it meets the evolving needs of postdoctoral scholars.
- Social Media Officer: Oversee the council’s social media presence, promoting events, initiatives, and community engagement.
- Communication Officer: Manage the flow of communications to the postdoc community, ensuring clear and timely information distribution.
- NPA Liaison: Serve as the primary contact between the council and the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA), keeping postdocs informed of opportunities and updates.
